Statement

Ceramics took over my life in 2019. I sat down at a potter’s wheel in Berkley, California after not touching clay for 17 years and have been consumed with the need to make pots ever since. I am in love with making clay vessels and perusing the endless possibilities the medium provides.

My artistic background and design training is in graphic design, having graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2007. My ceramics from before and after practicing graphic design are radically different, reflected in the way I think about form and surface decoration. The fundamentals of design—point, line, shape, color, and texture—play a big role in my work. The way that I am forever experimenting and iterating on designs and concepts also stems from my design education and practice.

Whatever I am creating, be it ceramics, graphic design,  motion graphics, or screen printing, I do it with lots of care for my craft. I am dedicated to bringing beautiful, engaging, joyful objects and images into people’s lives. I am forever grateful to be able to do what I do and to share it with others.

It is deeply satisfying to be able to use my graphic design skills to help others succeed, or to see that something I made helped bring people together. I continue to be interested in freelance projects with small businesses, independent publishers, non-profits, activists and artists.
